Creepy Kids in Cornfields: Anyone Actually Scared by Children of the Corn?

Okay, cinephiles, Priya here! Been diving into some classic horror lately, and I finally braved Children of the Corn (1984). I know, I know, I'm late to the party. But honestly? I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe it's because I've seen so many films inspired by it, but the creep factor just wasn't there for me like I'd expected. The premise is fantastic – a whole town run by homicidal kids worshipping something sinister in the corn – but the execution felt... a bit clunky? Specifically, did anyone else find the acting a bit wooden? Linda Hamilton, while a badass later in life, felt kind of bland here. And Malachai? Honestly, the kid mostly just seemed grumpy, not terrifying. I think the visual of all the children, especially Isaac, was incredibly effective. The way the scenes in the church were shot added an atmosphere of religious horror. It was the scenes in broad daylight in the field that weren't up to par. I'm all for low-budget horror, and appreciate the atmosphere they were trying to create. But what are your thoughts? Did this film scare you back in the day? Or am I just desensitized by years of horror flicks? Also, bonus points if you can recommend a similar film that actually kept you up at night. Hoping for some good recommendations!
