WOLVERINES! Revisiting Red Dawn (the OG one!)
Okay, fellow horror hounds, I know, I know, Red Dawn (1984) isn't technically horror. But hear me out! The sheer terror of waking up one day and your town is literally being invaded by Soviet paratroopers? That’s some serious nightmare fuel right there! I watched it again last night, and it still holds up in its own cheesy 80s way. Plus, young Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen fighting for freedom? What's not to love? I always get a kick out of the makeshift weapons and the whole 'kids forced to grow up way too fast' trope. The scene where they’re ambushing the patrol on the snowy road? Still gives me goosebumps. And I gotta admit, Lea Thompson as Erica was a total badass, even if her survival skills were…questionable sometimes. Let's be real, some of the acting is a little rough around the edges, and the plot gets kinda...messy toward the end. But the overall feeling of desperation and the Wolverines' determination is pretty effective. I have to give props to Powers Boothe, though. His performance as Andy Tanner was really good, and he added intensity to his already strong presence. He was the perfect balance of experienced yet kind, and he made an impression on my viewing. He only had a few scenes, but he felt like a cornerstone of the story. Without him, I think I wouldn't have felt so strongly about the story. I would definitely say Tanner was the perfect person to serve as a mentor to them. Anyone else a fan? What are your favorite moments? And did anyone else think the ending was a bit of a cop-out? Let's discuss!
