Repo Man: Still Tripping Balls After All These Years
Okay, so I just re-watched 'Repo Man' (1984) and HOLY CRAP, this movie is still absolute bonkers. Like, how did they even make this? The plot is insane - Emilio Estevez as this punk kid Otto who gets roped into repossessing cars, but then it turns into this whole thing with aliens, the CIA, and this Chevy Malibu with, like, some seriously weird cargo. I swear, every time I watch it, I notice some new detail. The whole glowing car thing is still super unsettling too, gives me the creeps. Harry Dean Stanton kills it as Bud, the OG repo man. "Ordinary Fucking People... I hate 'em." He's just so cynical and jaded, but underneath it all, there's this weird kind of code he lives by. And that soundtrack? Pure punk rock gold. I'm pretty sure I still have the cassette somewhere lol. I especially loved that scene where Otto is just aimlessly walking after quitting and it has the perfect soundtrack. I think the reason 'Repo Man' resonates is that it's just so weird and self-aware, but also kinda captures the feeling of being lost and disillusioned. Like, Otto's whole worldview gets flipped upside down, and honestly, who hasn't felt like that at some point? I feel like its underrated because it had a low budget, but I genuinely think its an iconic movie. I did think it was kinda slow at times, especially in the middle, but it's a small thing tbh. If you're looking for something different, something that'll make you think (and maybe scratch your head a little), definitely give 'Repo Man' a watch. Just, uh, maybe lay off the caffeine beforehand. You've been warned...
