Supergirl (1984) - Okay, But Did Anyone Else CRY?
Okay, so I finally watched Supergirl (1984). I know, I know, I'm late to the party lol. Honestly guys, it's... a trip. Not gonna lie, it's cheesy as heck. Like, the special effects are... well, they're from 1984, okay? But hear me out. There's something so earnest and sweet about it that I couldn't help but get sucked in. I actually got teary-eyed when Kara (Helen Slater, who is ADORABLE) first arrives on Earth. Just seeing her wonder and excitement at everything, and then ESPECIALLY when she's trying to fit in at school. I know it's silly, but the whole 'fish out of water' thing just gets me every time! And Faye Dunaway as Selena? Camp perfection. She's clearly having the TIME of her life being so extra. The scene where she's doing magic in that weird throne room is peak villainy. It's definitely not a "good" movie in the conventional sense, but it has this weird charm that I really appreciated. It's less about perfect superheroics and more about Kara's journey of self-discovery and her big heart. I did think it was a bit slow in parts, though! I'm not sure I'd watch again soon but glad that I saw it once. Did anyone else find themselves weirdly invested in this movie? Or am I just a big softie?? Let me know what you thought!
