"Double Trouble" (1984) - Was It Really Random?
Okay, so I've seen "Double Trouble" (1984) like... a lot. I know, I know, it's pure 80s cheese, but I love it. But this time, something hit me. We're supposed to believe that these two completely random guys – a stuntman and a sax player – just happen to look identical to these billionaire twins? And that's the whole premise for the switcheroo and them dodging bullets meant for rich guys? I don't buy it. Here's my crackpot theory: what if they weren't random at all? What if the billionaires knew about these look-alikes before the threats started? Think about it. They're billionaires. They have resources. Maybe they secretly tracked down their doppelgangers years ago, as an insurance policy. Like, 'Hey, if someone tries to off us, we have these guys.' Maybe that sounds crazy, but the scene where the lawyer, Arthur, finds Kirk (the sax player) so quickly? And how smoothly they seem to transition into the billionaire roles? Too convenient, imo! And what about the lack of backstory for the stuntman, Mitch? It's kinda glossed over, right? Maybe he was paid off, or even trained for something like this years in advance! It kinda explains his quick thinking in those action scenes. It's not just stuntman skills, it's like he's been subconsciously preparing for this his whole life. Plus, the movie never REALLY explores their reactions to suddenly being millionaires, which feels like a missed oppurtunity if they were just everyday people. I know, I'm probably reading way too much into this silly movie, but it's fun to think about! What do you guys think? Am I completely off my rocker, or is there a sliver of a chance that this "random" casting was actually part of some elaborate billionaire scheme?
