"The Woman in Red" - Okay...Was I the Only One Cringing?!

Okay, so I just re-watched "The Woman in Red" (1984) with the older kids (teenagers, don't worry!), and...wow. It's definitely a product of its time. I remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was all fun and games, but now as a parent, watching Dudley Moore's character, Teddy, just completely lose it over Kelly Le Brock...whew it made me uncomfortable. Like, I get the whole "infatuation" thing, but the lengths he goes to! Especially knowing he has a wife and kid! It's supposed to be funny, and some parts were amusing, but it felt super skeezy in places. Did anyone else feel that way? Or am I just overly sensitive now that I'm a mom? Maybe it's because back then society didn't have the same kind of societal norms? I dunno. And the slapstick! Some of it was genuinely hilarious, like the whole window-washing scene. But other parts felt... forced? Like they were trying too hard to be the next "Pink Panther." I guess I'm just wondering if it holds up for anyone else. I felt so awkward watching it with my teens. They were laughing, but I was silently judging Teddy the whole time! LOL. Anyone else feel this way or am I just too critical? What are your thoughts on this movie and the subject matter?
