Missing in Action: Is Braddock Actually a Ghost?
Okay, so I just rewatched Missing in Action (1984) for like, the millionth time. And a thought occurred to me, one that's been percolating since I first saw the movie. What if Colonel Braddock, Chuck Norris' character, is basically a ghost? Think about it. He's unfazed by EVERYTHING. Like, remember when he walks through the jungle, mowing down Viet Cong soldiers like they're weeds? There's no fear, no hesitation. He's a freakin' machine. "Time to even the score!". And don't even get me started on the scene where he's captured. He escapes like it's a Tuesday afternoon. Regular people wouldn't survive half of what he goes through. Plus, his knowledge of the POW camps, his sheer determination...it's almost supernatural. Maybe he did die in Vietnam the first time around and came back to finish unfinished business. Vengeance is a powerful motivator, especially when you are Chuck Norris, after all. I know it sounds kinda out there, but it adds another layer to the movie, right? We see the hardened, almost indestructible Chuck Norris on screen, but what if on a deeper more metaphysical level, we're seeing a force of nature, hellbent on rescuing those lost souls? And he does! It's like he's not bound by the rules of reality anymore... he's just there to deliver justice. This theory could definitely add to the film's rewatch value. It kinda makes sense, right? Or am I just losing it? I mean, whether he's a ghost or a just a ridiculously tough dude, Missing in Action is still a solid action flick. "Let's rock!" What do you all think? Am I onto something, or should I lay off the cinema a bit? Lemme know your thoughts!
