Buckaroo Banzai: Still trying to figure out how it makes me FEEL!
Okay, so I finally watched "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension." Talk about a TRIP! I'm not even sure where to BEGIN. It's so... weirdly charming? Like, it's objectively kind of a mess, but a glorious mess? I kept switching between being completely bewildered and grinning like an idiot. Jeff Goldblum as New Jersey! What WAS that? And the Lectroids... pure campy evil genius. I almost cried when Perfect Tommy finally got to play his trumpet on live television. So triumphant! So... random? But seriously, did anyone else feel like they were missing half the information? Like, I think I got the gist – aliens, dimensions, Buckaroo being awesome at everything – but the details were kinda fuzzy. I mean, they just casually mention things like the World Crime League and the Oscillation Overthruster like we're supposed to know all about it! Maybe I need to watch it again (or ten more times) to fully absorb it all. Also, And why are they all named John?? Is that the point? Are the John's all him in different universes? Is that what the 8th dimension is? It's all so confusing! So, my question is: What feeling did you get from this movie? Was it pure joy, confusion, maybe both? And what is the MEANING of the watermelon? Someone HELP me figure this out!
