Buckaroo Banzai WHAT?! (My Brain Hurts Good)
Okay, so I've been trying to dive into some classics I missed, and someone seriously insisted I watch this 'Buckaroo Banzai' movie. I went in totally blind, and I'm still not sure what I watched, but I think I loved it? Like, it's SO weird. This dude Buckaroo Banzai is a neurosurgeon, a physicist, a rock star, AND a comic book hero? It's like someone threw every cool thing from the 80s into a blender and hit puree. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the plot. Something about aliens from the 8th dimension and a device to travel between dimensions. John Lithgow as the main alien bad guy, Lord Whorfin, was chewing the scenery like crazy. He was SO over the top, I kept laughing. And the whole 'Hong Kong Cavaliers' thing? I don't think I've ever seen a more eclectic and... dedicated group of sidekicks. Jeff Goldblum showing up as a neurosurgeon who thinks he's a Rastafarian was... a choice. I don't even know if it was a good one, but I couldn't look away. Honestly, I'm not sure if I got it. I think I need to watch it again. There were so many random details and inside jokes that flew right over my head. But it was so uniquely bizarre and charming. I'm not sure what rating to give it, but I'm defintely putting it on my 'rewatch soon' list. Seriously, did anyone else see this? Is this movie a fever dream we all shared? I think I need answers. Also, let's be real, 'No matter where you go, there you are' is my new motto. That line alone nearly makes this a 5/5. Almost. lol.
