Wheels on Meals: Underrated Jackie Chan Gem (Better Than Some Give it Credit For!)
Alright, movie buffs, moviebuff_marc checking in! I just rewatched "Wheels on Meals" (1984) and, man, this one STILL holds up. So many people sleep on this flick when talking about Jackie Chan's best, putting stuff like "Police Story" and "Drunken Master" (rightfully) on a pedestal, and I get it...but this one's just pure fun. The mobile restaurant concept alone is genius! I remember being a kid and just being mesmerized by that thing. And the fight choreography? Forget about it. Benny "The Jet" Urquidez? C'mon! Legendary. The final fight scene with him is just...chef's kiss. Reminds me of some of Bruce Lee's best, just with Chan's signature acrobatic style. Maybe it's just the Gen X nostalgia talking, but honestly, this movie has a certain charm that's missing from a lot of the modern action flicks. The humor is goofy, sure (the Three Stooges influence is strong!), and the plot's paper thin (girl gets kidnapped, they gotta save her), but the chemistry between Jackie, Yuen Biao, and Sammo Hung is undeniable. It's just...wholesome, if that makes sense for a movie where people are getting their faces kicked in. Plus, Barcelona looks gorgeous in this movie. Kinda makes you wanna pack your bags and open a food truck, lol. I'm not saying it's Citizen Kane or anything, but if you're looking for a fun, action-packed, and genuinely funny movie with some truly incredible martial arts, give "Wheels on Meals" another look. You might be surprised. It’s def a comfort-food movie...and I’m hungry just thinking about it! Heh. Anyone else feel the same? Or am I just reliving my childhood here? Let me know!
