Okay, I Watched The Ewok Adventure (and I Have Thoughts)
So, I finally caved and watched The Ewok Adventure from 1984. Listen, I knew going in it wasn't going to be, like, Citizen Kane. But I'm a sucker for anything Star Wars adjacent, and especially anything with Wicket. And honestly? It wasn't as bad as I feared. I mean, it's definitely aimed at kids, very very young kids. But there's a weird charm to the whole thing. The kid actors, Mace and Cindel, are... well, they're kid actors. Cindel is actually pretty good at delivering the sad-orphan vibes, especially when she's interacting with Wicket. I really bought their friendship! And I gotta say, the Ewoks themselves are adorable. The makeup and creature design, even with that low budget, held up pretty well. The scene where the Gorax attacks their treehouse? Genuinely scary! It's this huge, lumbering monster, and you really feel the danger, even if its kinda silly in retrospect. What really strikes me is how they managed to build up this whole little world separate from the main Star Wars saga. The planet of Endor feels even bigger and more mysterious, and the introduction of the witch Logray and the evil Tulgah, adds depth to the world-building. I wonder if they had thought about expanding on that era? It's a shame Lucas did not do more. It felt like a great opportunity. Overall, The Ewok Adventure is a fun, cheesy, and surprisingly heartwarming watch. Don't go expecting a deep, philosophical story. But if you're in the mood for some nostalgic, creature-filled adventure with a whole lotta fluff (and a whole lotta Ewok chirps), you could do a lot worse. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I think it's kinda...endearing? What did you all think of it?
