Okay, "Falling In Love" - Underrated 80s Romance or Just…Fine?
Alright sci-fi nerds, let's take a SMALL detour. I saw this movie "Falling in Love" (1984) the other night (don't judge me, even I need a break from Star Wars sometimes!). It's got De Niro and Meryl Streep, so you kinda expect fireworks, right? The premise is simple: two married people, Christmas shopping chaos, bump into each other (literally!), and then… reconnect on a train months later. Cue the forbidden romance vibes. The thing is, I wasn't blown away. De Niro and Streep have insane chemistry, no doubt. That scene where they keep subtly missing each other on the train, trying to get a glimpse? Good stuff. And their awkward first 'date' at that bookstore was surprisingly sweet. But the tension felt a little… slow burn to the point of almost burnt out, you know? I kept waiting for some bigger spark, some HUGE dramatic blow-up, and it kinda stayed at a simmer. I mean, I appreciate the realism. Cheating isn't usually about explosions of passion, it's often a creeping thing, a series of small moments. Maybe that's the point, and I'm just too used to blockbuster narratives with clear heroes and villains. This movie is more about the quiet devastation loneliness can cause. And the ending.. wow, no spoilers but I definitely didn't see that coming – pretty well done. So, verdict? Not a rewatch immediately but I gotta give it points for being different and the fantastic acting. I think I'll give it a solid 7/10. Anyone else seen it? Thoughts? Am I missing something obvious? Let me know!
