Falling in Love (1984): Anyone else kinda...underwhelmed?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Falling in Love" with De Niro and Meryl Streep. I know, I know, cinematic royalty! But honestly, I was expecting to be completely swept away, and I was just...not. Maybe it's because I went in with super high expectations? I think my main issue is just that it felt so...slow. Like, I get the whole 'chance encounter, longing glances' thing, but at times it felt dragged out. What I DID like, though, was the realism of their situations. Both were so clearly unhappy in their current marriages, and you could see the quiet desperation. I especially felt for Streep's character, Molly. Does anyone else think her initial reluctance felt really authentic? Like she KNEW this could wreck everything, but couldn't help herself? But here's my question: did anyone else feel like the ending was a bit… abrupt? They finally decide to be together, and then BAM, credits roll. I wanted to see more! I wanted to know how their families reacted, what their lives looked like post-divorce. Was that anticlimactic for anyone else? Or was it the right ending? Maybe I'm missing something. I'm open to having my mind changed LOL. Let me know your thoughts!
