Sexmission: Peak 80s Weirdness (and Kinda Brilliant?)
Okay, so I just finished watching Sexmission (Seksmisja) and...wow. I knew going in it was going to be a bit out there, but holy moly. The premise alone is wild: two guys wake up in a future society run entirely by women and told that men are extinct. It's like a feminist fever dream (or nightmare, depending on your perspective, lol). What really got me was how seriously it takes itself sometimes. Like, the societal critiques are definitely there, even if they're delivered with a heavy dose of 80s camp. Olgierd Łukaszewicz as Albert Starski is fantastic; he manages to be both clueless and kinda endearing. The whole sequence where they're being 'feminized' is both hilarious and deeply unsettling. And the fashion! My god, the costumes are a trip. Think futuristic nuns meets a rave. I'm not sure I'd call it a perfect movie. Some of the pacing feels a bit off, and the special effects are...well, they're 80s Polish special effects, so manage your expectations. But honestly, those flaws kinda add to its charm? It's just such a unique and bizarre film, I can't help but admire it. Definite recommendation if you're looking for something completely different that isn't afraid to be a little bit bonkers. Has anyone else seen this? What did YOU think? Oh! And quick note, be careful which one you watch, there's a longer version with more 'adult' scenes which I didn't see so I can't speak to that.
