Dreamscape (1984) - Underrated or Just Weird?
Okay horrorheads, been on a Christopher Nolan kick lately (surprise, surprise!), and it got me thinking about other movies that messed with dreams and reality. Naturally, my brain landed on Dreamscape from 1984. Has anyone else seen this gem? It's got Dennis Quaid playing a psychic recruited to enter people's dreams, which sounds kinda hokey, but it's actually pretty dark and thought-provoking. I was particularly creeped out by the whole 'Snake Man' sequence. Seriously, that thing was NIGHTMARE fuel! And the way they visualized slipping into and out of dreams was pretty innovative for the time, even if it looks a bit dated now. Plus, Max von Sydow is always a win in my book. He brings such gravitas to everything he's in, even a flick like this. But honestly, sometimes I wonder if it tries to do TOO much. Political thriller elements, romance, psychic powers... it's a LOT. Here's my burning question: Do you think Dreamscape deserves more recognition, or is it just a product of its time that's better off left in the 80s? I mean, it's not perfect, but I feel like it laid the groundwork for a lot of mind-bending movies we see today. What did you guys think of the ending? Was it satisfying, or did the whole conspiracy plot kinda fizzle out? Let me know your thoughts! Also, quick sidenote: I keep seeing things about a remake or a sequel being in development for years. Has anyone heard any concrete updates on that? I'm cautiously optimistic, but also terrified they're gonna ruin it, lol.
