My New Partner (1984) - Anyone Else Think This Movie is Underrated?
Okay, so I just finished watching "My New Partner" (French title: Les Ripoux) and, man, I was laughing my butt off the entire time. I went in blind, just saw it pop up on some streaming service and thought, "Eh, why not?" Glad I did! I usually hate buddy-cop movies that try too hard, but this one felt so... genuine, in a weird, kinda sleazy way? Like, Lhermitte as René Boisrond is PERFECT as the corrupt, lazy cop. And the chemistry between him and Thierry Lhermitte (Philippe Noiret) is gold! It's kinda dark, I guess, considering the whole corruption thing, but the way it's played is so absurd. The scene where René is teaching François the ropes, basically showing him how to take bribes and look the other way... I was dying! Especially when the hookers all start knowing the new guy! And is it just me, or is the score unexpectedly good? My question is... does anyone else think this movie is seriously underrated? I never hear anyone talking about it, but it's way funnier and sharper than some of the big-name comedy cop movies that came out around the same time. Maybe it's a French thing? I dunno. Seriously, though, if you're looking for a good laugh and don't mind a little morally ambiguous behavior, give "My New Partner" a look. You might be surprised. And does anyone know who directed this? It doesn't say on the app and I'm too lazy to look it up rn lol.
