The Hit (1984) - Underrated Road Movie Gem? Anyone Else Love This?
Okay, sci-fi usually my jam, but sometimes you gotta appreciate a classic crime flick. I just re-watched 'The Hit' (1984) and man, it's STILL so good. John Hurt is amazing as Brannigan, the guy who ratted out his mates. The whole vibe is so bleak and British. It's like, a road trip from hell. What I find fascinating is how the movie world builds - the whole concept of professional hitmen who are almost bored with their job. Like, they're just driving Brannigan to Paris so he faces justice but it all goes wrong along the way. The scene with Tim Roth's Myron at the service station where he gets increasingly frustrated is perfect. It's not glorifying the violence. The movie's actually quite melancholic, especially the ending. What do we think - is 'The Hit' tragically underrated?! I feel like it never gets mentioned when people talk about great crime films, but it's got such a unique feel, you know? And the car they drive in feels like it could fall apart at any moment. I actually love the world building in that sense. Is it just me, or does Hurt just nail the 'guilty conscience' role? Always looking over his shoulder, knowing his past is gonna catch up. That final scene in the rain is just WOW. Share your thoughts - did ya'll enjoy it? Or am I just seeing something that isn't there? Gimme your best opinions of the film!
