Moscow on the Hudson: Bloomingdale's, Saxophones, and Culture Shock!
Okay guys, so last night me and the crew watched 'Moscow on the Hudson' and wow, what a trip! I'd never even HEARD of this movie before, but it was so charming and funny. Robin Williams is just pure gold as Vladimir, this Russian sax player who defects at Bloomingdale's of all places. I mean, can you imagine the stress?! The scene where he's actually deciding to do it, and it's all just a blur of American consumerism, like, perfectly captures how overwhelming it must have been. And the whole Bloomingdale's setting is just chef's kiss. It's not just funny though, it's also kinda sad. Watching him adjust to life in New York, the tiny apartment, the language barrier… it felt really genuine. I loved Cleavant Derricks as Lionel, the security guard who befriends him. Their interactions were some of my favorite parts, especially when he helps Vlad get his feet under him. Also, the scene where he goes to Brighton Beach and finds a whole community of Russian expats? Heartwarming! There were a few parts that felt a little dated, of course. Like, some of the stereotypes, especially early on, were a bit much. But overall, it was a surprisingly touching and funny movie. I'm def gonna recommend it to my mom, she loves Robin Williams. Anyone else seen it? What did you guys think? Did that Bloomingdale's scene stress you out as much as it stressed me out? Oh, and I didn't catch the director's name, which is a bummer. But still, a solid watch! Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something a little different and feel-good.
