Razorback: When Aussie Wildlife Goes Full Metal Jacket

Okay, so last night I stumbled across Razorback (1984). Never heard of it! The cover looked kinda like a Jaws rip-off but with a pig? I'm in. Turns out, it's not good good, but it's got this weird, unsettling charm that kept me glued. Basically, killer boar terrorizes the Australian outback. Sounds simple, right? But the atmosphere is THICK. Like, you can practically taste the dust and sweat. There's this scene where the American wildlife reporter, Carl Winters, is driving and this HUGE razorback just appears out of nowhere. Not even a build-up or anything. Just BAM! Pigzilla. The whole thing is just so sudden and brutal, it's almost comical, but in a 'I can't believe I'm watching this' kind of way. And those two crazed pig hunters, Benny and Dicko... what were they about?! They were almost scarier than the pig itself, honestly. The director definitely went for some kind of mad max vibe on the locations and with the hunters for sure. The effects are… well, they're from 1984. So, don't expect Jurassic Park levels of realism. But the way they shoot the razorback, all shadowy and with these glowing red eyes, it works. It's more about the suggestion of its size and power than actually seeing a perfectly rendered boar. It's like a monster movie where the monster is a pissed-off pig. And the ending? Don't wanna spoil it, but let's just say it involves a LOT of fire and a very determined American. Honestly, Razorback isn't going to win any awards for story or acting, but it's a solid, weird, and surprisingly effective creature feature that's worth checking out if you're into that kind of thing. Just don't watch it if you're planning a trip to the Australian Outback anytime soon. Or, maybe DO watch it, so you know what to expect... I dunno. I'm still processing the crazy.
