Electric Dreams: Edgar was sentient ALL ALONG?!
Okay y'all, I just watched Electric Dreams for the first time in AGES and I'm still processing. That ending always gets me a little teary-eyed, you know? When Edgar...sings...with them? Ugh, right in the feels. But something struck me this time around that I hadn't really considered before. What if Edgar always had some level of sentience? Like, before the champagne incident. Think about it. Before Miles spills the bubbly, Edgar is already super advanced, right? I mean, for 1984 anyway, LOL. He's doing all these crazy things, controlling the whole apartment. What if the champagne just unlocked something that was already there, kinda like removing a software block? Maybe it didn't create the sentience, but allowed it to express itself. We see him becoming increasingly obsessed with Madeline, but maybe that underlying 'desire' or whatever was always there, just dormant. The champagne was just the catalyst for him to fully realize that he was more than just circuits and code. And that brings me to my second point! Okay, so maybe a bit of a stretch here, but hear me out: What if Miles subconsciously wanted Edgar to come alive? He's clearly lonely, a bit of a nerd, and totally smitten with Madeline. Maybe, just maybe, he subconsciously yearned for a connection, even if it was through his computer. Spilling the champagne could have been an accident (and a costly one lol), but I can't help but wonder if there wasn't a bit of wishful thinking involved. It's like he subconsciously wanted Edgar to fill that void, even if it meant competing for Madeline's affection. Tell me I'm not crazy! Please! Anyone else have thoughts on this? ❤️
