Places in the Heart: A Texas Tornado of Emotions!

Okay, film friends, I finally watched "Places in the Heart" (I know, I'm late to the party!). Wow, what a film! It's set in Depression-era Texas and follows Edna Spaulding (Sally Field, giving a raw performance) after her husband, the town marshall, gets shot. She's left with two little kids and a farm that’s about to be seized by the bank. The whole thing just oozes with that humid, rural Texas atmosphere. What really got me was how the film handled unlikely partnerships. Edna hires a Black farmhand, Moze (Danny Glover), and takes in a blind boarder, Mr. Will (John Malkovich). There's this incredible scene - it's simple, but powerful -of them all working side-by-side, picking cotton under the blazing sun. It's a total 'we're all in this together' moment, against all odds. The social commentary isn't super heavy-handed, but it's definitely there, simmering under the surface. I was a bit surprised by the ending... I won’t spoil it, but it felt maybe a little too idealistic. Still, the movie as a whole is beautifully crafted. I think some of the performances are outstanding. Even though it deals with some really tough themes grief, racism, economic hardship - it's ultimately about hope and resilience. If you're looking for something a bit slow-paced but heartfelt, this is a good one. Has anyone else seen it? What did you think of that ending, specially? I'm keen to hear other people's takes!
