"Vacanze in America": Okay, Hear Me Out...
Alright guys, so I just rewatched "Vacanze in America" (1984) and I gotta say, it's even more chaotic than I remember. Like, this movie is a total time capsule of the 80s, from the fashion disasters to the, uh, questionable humor. For those who haven't seen it, it's basically a bunch of Italian schoolboys running wild in America, and their poor priest chaperone is just trying to keep them from, y'know, completely destroying everything. Honestly, Father Don Buro (who's actor, I can't remember right now but he's a legend in Italy) deserves a medal. I mean, imagine dealing with that bunch for weeks! Some of the scenes are genuinely hilarious, like when they try to order food in New York or the whole thing with the Native American ceremony. But it's also super cringe at times, especially with how they portray American culture – though maybe that's kinda the point? It's definitely not PC, but it's also kind of a genius snapshot of how Italians viewed America back then. Plus, the soundtrack is killer! It's definitely a product of its time, but I think it's worth checking out if you're into Italian comedies or just want a glimpse into 80s culture through a very...unique lens. It's not gonna win any Oscars for sure, but it's guaranteed to make you laugh (and maybe cringe a little too). What do you guys think? Am I alone in finding this movie strangely charming, or am I just completely losing it? 😂
