Okay, I watched Sheena... and I have thoughts.
So, yeah, I finally got around to watching Sheena (1984). I know, I know, late to the party. Someone recommended it as a 'so bad it's good' classic. I'm usually down for those, but this was... something else. It's about this girl, Sheena (Tanya Roberts), whose parents get killed and she's raised by this African tribe and becomes this like, Tarzan-esque warrior woman who can talk to animals? The cheetahs were kinda cool, I will admit. The plot is bonkers. Basically, some evil prince dude is trying to take over the land and frames Sheena's foster mom for murder. And there's this news reporter, Vic (Ted Wass), who gets dragged into it all. Honestly, the acting was... not great. Tanya Roberts looked great, but the script didn't give her much to work with. And Vic? He was just… there. I did laugh when Sheena straight up just rides a zebra into battle, though. That was unintentionally hilarious. I gotta say, the scenery was beautiful. They filmed in Kenya, and it really looks amazing. But the story felt really dated and a bit tone-deaf in places, ya know? Like, the whole "white woman savior of Africa" trope is strong with this one. And some of the costumes... yikes. I think I felt a little uncomfortable in some scenes, honestly. Overall, Sheena is definitely a product of its time. It's not a good movie, per se, but it's... memorable? If you're looking for pure camp and don't mind overlooking some questionable elements, it might be worth a watch. But go in knowing what you're getting into. I'm not sure I'd recommend it unless you're into 80s cheese.
