The Breakfast Club: Still Holds Up (Kinda?)

Okay, so I rewatched The Breakfast Club last night, because, y'know, nostalgia. And honestly? It's still pretty good. Like, not perfect, and definitely shows its age in some spots (the whole makeover thing with Ally Sheedy is kinda... yikes now?), but the core of it is still there. The way they all start off hating each other and then actually connect over their shared teenage angst? Totally relatable, even now. I still think Judd Nelson as Bender is amazing, even if he's a total jerk. He's SO magnetic, you can't help but watch him. And the scene where they're all just being honest about their lives to each other in that circle? That's gold. I think that's why it's a classic - it nails that feeling of being a misunderstood teen perfectly, even if it's a little over the top sometimes. The dancing scene is iconic, but the whole movie just feels so authentic to the 80s teen experience (even if it's not MY 80s, ha!). Claire giving Bender her earring at the end? So cheesy, but I totally bought it back then and I still kinda buy it now. Maybe that's just me. I liked Brian's essay. Anyone else think Brian had the best arc? Maybe it's because I was kinda like him. Plus... Simple Minds' 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' is just... chef's kiss. Still gets me every time. The Principal, Vernon, is such great antagonist. That's some good acting. Overall, still would recommend. Maybe it hits different if you didn't grow up with it, idk. Let me know what you think, fellow movie buffs! Is it as good as I remember, or am I just blinded by nostalgia? Oh and can someone please tell me who directed it, I legit forgot and too lazy to look it up right now. Thanks!
