Rocky IV: Cheesy 80s Gold or Actually...Good?

Okay, so I just rewatched Rocky IV for probably the millionth time. I know, I know, it's peak 80s cheese – the training montage in Siberia is practically a parody of itself at this point. But honestly, I think there's something genuinely compelling about it, especially in the context of the whole Rocky saga. Hear me out! I'm always drawn to the human side of things, and while Drago is basically a robot for most of the movie ('I must break you' is iconic, sure, but hardly nuanced), there's still this undercurrent of...I don't know...loneliness? He's a product, a weapon, and maybe that's why he's so stoic. And then there's Apollo's death. I know it's a plot device to fuel Rocky's fire, but Carl Weathers absolutely sells the finality of it. The quiet moments before the fight, the fear in his eyes...it's heartbreaking. Does anyone else think they could've explored Drago's perspective a little more, even just one scene showing his own internal struggle? And finally, the scene after the fight - is that speech good, or just hilariously bad? Like, it's supposed to be this moment of international unity during the Cold War, but... does it land or is it just too on the nose? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I just find myself constantly questioning how much of my enjoyment is genuine appreciation and how much is just pure nostalgia. What are your thoughts? Am I giving it too much credit, or is there actually some real substance hidden beneath all the synth music and explosions?
