Return (1985) - Did Anyone Else Find this Movie Creepy?
Okay, so I stumbled across this movie called "Return" from 1985 – yeah, I know, way before my kids were even a twinkle in my eye! But I've been on a bit of a flashback kick lately, revisiting some of the films I watched as a kid (or shortly thereafter!). The plot is... well, a little bonkers. Basically, this woman, Phyllis, lost her grandfather super young and becomes convinced that this guy who can do hypnotic regression can reunite them. I guess. It's a bit fuzzy. Honestly, the whole thing gave me the serious willies. It's not overtly scary, like a slasher film, but the atmosphere is just so...off. There's a scene where Phyllis is under hypnosis and suddenly starts talking with her granddfather. The way it was filmed, with the weird lighting and the guy's voice echoing… I dunno, it was unsettling. My husband walked in while I was watching it and even he said it was kinda creepy, and he usually brushes these things off. Was anyone else totally freaked out by this movie, or am I just too easily spooked these days? Also, did anyone understand why she was so obsessed with her maternal grandfather. I get losing a loved one, especially early in life, but it felt unusually intense. I kept thinking, "Girl, get some therapy!" Did I miss something? I'm wondering if maybe I need to rewatch it becasue I wasn't totally paying attention the first time. Curious if I'm alone in feeling like this movie is more disturbing than it lets on!
