Okay, Hear Me Out: Return of the Living Dead Zombie Rules?!
Hey everyone! Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Return of the Living Dead" (yeah, I know, I'm late to the party!). It was way more fun than I expected, honestly. But something's been bugging me, and I wanted to see what you guys think. It's about the whole 'brains' thing. I was always under the assumption that zombies just wanted flesh, right? Like, a general hunger? But in this movie, they're specifically craving brains, and they even say they need them to ease the pain of being dead. Is this like, the OG source of that zombie trope? Or was it already a thing before? And more importantly, is it true within the movie's universe? Because, like, they eat a LOT of brains. Do they ever explain why brains? Is it protein? Some special chemical that helps them function? I feel like it's not fully explained, but everyone takes it as gospel. Maybe it's a metaphor for something? Or maybe it's just totally random 80s horror weirdness, lol. Thinking about it, the whole 'Trioxin' explanation is a little shaky too, right? Like, this gas can bring people back to life, but only if they crave BRAINS specifically? Maybe the Trioxin is a red herring and the brains are the real answer to how they come back. I thought it was the campiest zombie thing, but it also made me think! What if the movie is suggesting that all zombies inherently had a 'hunger' for brains from the get-go? The hunger was always there, but it wasn't until the Trioxin that they became sentient enough to articulate their need? Maybe it unlocked something? Like, they never truly knew what they wanted before, only what they lacked. Okay, now I'm sounding crazy, I think. I just feel like there's more to the brains thing than meets the eye. Anyway, what are your theories? Did anyone else get super fixated on the brain explanation, or am I just overthinking a goofy horror flick? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
