Zorin's Blimp Base? Seriously? AVTAK Thoughts
Okay, so I just re-watched "A View to a Kill." And...look, I'm a Bond fan. I'll watch almost anything with 007. But this one... it's...something else. I kinda love it in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way, y'know? Christopher Walken as Zorin is, of course, amazing. He's so delightfully unhinged. The whole plot about flooding Silicon Valley? A little out there, even for Bond. And Tanya Roberts... bless her heart, she tries. Her character Stacey Sutton feels more like a damsel glued to Bond's side than a proper co-conspirator. That scene when Bond drives the firetruck with the ladder extended while chasing Zorin's blimp always gets me. How can Bond do all of that and not cause any damage? Also, did anyone find it weird that he just abandons her after defeating Zorin? Like, 'Cool, you're safe now, bye!' But the real star of the show, for me, is Zorin's blimp. A blimp base? Like, who comes up with this stuff? It's so ridiculous, it's almost brilliant in its own way. I mean, as a world-builder, I gotta appreciate the sheer audacity of it. The idea of a hidden base floating above everything, controlled by a psycho with blonde hair... pure gold. Although, I did find it odd that the director didn't take advantage of the setting and show it more. Very little of the third act takes place there. Anyway, I wouldn't put "A View to a Kill" in my top five Bond films. Maybe not even top ten. But it's definitely memorable. And Walken? He elevates it. What are your thoughts? Am I alone in my weird appreciation for Zorin's blimp empire?
