Okay, Let's Talk About "Freddy's Revenge" - Is It Really That Bad?
Alright horror fiends, jessmovienerd here, ready to dive into the controversial waters of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge. This is the one everyone loves to hate, right? I've seen it ranked at the bottom of SO many lists, and yeah, it's...different. I get why people were thrown off after the first movie. Instead of Freddy tormenting a group of teens, he's trying to possess Jesse? It's a weird angle. And the whole thing with Jesse's internal struggle... some of it lands flat, I won't lie. But honestly, I don't think it's completely terrible. There are some genuinely creepy moments. That scene in the birdcage...still freaks me out. And Robert Englund is always amazing, even if the script isn't his strongest material. Plus, there's a level of camp and unintentional humor that makes it kind of fun to watch. Like, the gym teacher scene? Come on, that's iconic, even if it's for all the wrong reasons! I also think people sometimes overlook the themes it's trying to explore. Whether intentional or not, there's subtext about repressed sexuality and the struggle to control your own body, which is interesting. Maybe it wasn't executed perfectly, but the idea was there. Is it as tight and masterful as the original? Absolutely not. But is it the worst horror sequel ever made? I don't know, guys. I'm just saying there's something strangely fascinating about it. What do you all think? Am I completely alone in finding some redeeming qualities here? Or is this just my love for all things Freddy blinding me? Let me know! ;)
