Clue - Underrated Comedy GOLD (and some surprisingly cool physical stuff?)
Okay, so I know what you're thinking: "Mikecinema and comedy? What dimension am I in?!" Look, I'm an action guy, I admit it. But gotta give credit where it's due. I re-watched 'Clue' (1985) the other night, and man, I forgot how damn funny that movie is. Like, seriously, Christopher Lloyd's Professor Plum is a REACTING LEGEND. Every line he delivers is gold. It's not explosions and car chases, but it's definitely kinetic energy, y'know? And here's the thing I noticed this time around - there's more physical comedy than I remembered. Like, Madeline Kahn's Mrs. White freaking out and that whole bit with the chandelier falling? Granted, it's played for laughs, but someone had to design and rig that thing! And what about Tim Curry's insane energy throughout the entire film? He's constantly running, tripping, and doing pratfalls. Now sure, it's no Jackie Chan, but it's still impressive how committed he is to the slapstick. Makes me wonder how many takes they did for some of those scenes. Anyway, my question for you guys is: do you think 'Clue' gets enough credit for its physical comedy aspect? Is it just me, or is there some genuine stuntwork hidden beneath all the witty dialogue and murder mystery shenanigans? And seriously, anyone know if Tim Curry did his own falls, or did the have a stunt double for him? That would be cool to know.
