Okay, Who DIDN'T Love "Clue"?!
Alright, so I finally got around to rewatching "Clue" (1985) and I'm just kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I know it's like, a cult classic, but sometimes those pass me by. I'm usually hunting down every single film by some obscure European director, but I gotta admit, this was pure fun. I'm lowkey obsessed with comedies that are also mysteries, and this one nails it. The ensemble cast is just chef's kiss. Tim Curry as Wadsworth is obviously iconic, but Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White? Forget about it. "Flames...flames on the side of my face..." I was dying! And the whole set design? That mansion is gorgeous (and perfect for a murder, obviously). I love how theatrical it all feels, like it's ripped straight from a stage play (which, duh, it is!). I think what really elevated it for me was the multiple endings. The first time I saw it, I was floored when they revealed each possibility. It's such a clever way to subvert expectations and make you question everything you thought you knew. It's like a choose-your-own-adventure movie, but with murder! I'm now super curious about who directed it because they really understood the tone. It's campy, it's witty, and it never takes itself too seriously. It's a shame they never really became a household name. Anyone know what else Jonathan Lynn (the director) did? Def gonna look into his filmography now. Overall, "Clue" is just a blast of a movie. Hilarious, clever, and endlessly rewatchable. If you somehow haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't regret it. Unless you get murdered, lol. Oh and PS, Mrs. Peacock is totally underrated. Eileen Brennan KILLS it. I rest my case.
