Witness: Okay, this movie kinda wrecked me. (In the BEST way)

Okay, so I finally watched Witness (1985)! I'd heard about it for ages, but just never got around to it. And wow. Just... wow. I went in expecting a kinda standard crime thriller, but honestly? It was so much more. The way it contrasts the fast-paced, brutal world of the cop (Harrison Ford, swoon!) with the peaceful, simple life of the Amish... it just hit me right in the feels. Like, the scene where John Book hides out with them, and you see him struggling with their ways but also finding some kind of peace? Ugh, my heart! Kelly McGillis, I have to say, she was amazing. The quiet strength she showed as Rachel, trying to protect her son and uphold her beliefs... I was rooting for her SO HARD. And the romance (without being too much, you know?) between her and Book was just so sweet and understated. The barn-raising scene? Forget about it. I was a goner. The whole community coming together, that sense of belonging and purpose... I was sobbing. Actual tears. And the violence, when it came, was so much more shocking because of that contrast. Like, you're lulled into this sense of serenity, and then BAM! It's a total gut punch. Which I guess is the point, right? That the outside world is so messed up. The ending, with Book leaving... bitter sweet af. I kinda wanted them to run off together, but I also understood they couldn't. Made it even more painful, honestly. Totally recommend this, even if crime/thrillers aren't your usual thing. It's just a really beautiful, thought-provoking film. Like, gonna be thinking about this for a while. Anyone else bawl their eyes out? Tell me I'm not alone!
