Ran: Okay, This Movie Messed Me Up (But In a Good Way?)
Okay, so I just finished watching "Ran" and wow. Just...wow. I knew it was supposed to be like, Japanese King Lear, but I wasn't prepared for just HOW epic and tragic it all was. I'm not even usually into historical epics (give me a creepy doll movie any day!), but the visuals? Unreal. The battle scenes alone are jaw-dropping. I'm talking armies clashing, fortresses burning, and so much chaotic energy. That scene where Saburo (the youngest son) is trying to help his father, Lord Hidetora, after the other two sons have basically turned their backs...oof. Straight to the heart. Seriously though, the scale of the film is insane, and the colors are so vibrant. All that red during the battles? Intense. I kept thinking about how much work went into choreographing all that. I'm kind of obsessed with Lady Kaede (the daughter-in-law, yikes!), she's such a terrible person (evil!) but clearly has some major manipulative skills. She's definitely one of those characters you love to hate, am I right? Honestly, it's incredibly depressing, but the kind of depressing that makes you think. It's not just bloodshed for the sake of bloodshed (though there's plenty of that!); it's about family betrayals, the futility of power, and the consequences of pride. I'm still processing it all, tbh. Anyone else seen this movie? What were your thoughts? Did the ending leave you as emotionally drained as it left me? Maybe I just need a really cheesy slasher movie to cleanse my palate now. haha.
