Blood Simple: Man, That Was Messed Up (in a Good Way?)
Okay, so last night I stumbled onto "Blood Simple"... never heard of it before, but the title was intriguing, right? Turns out it was the Coen brothers' debut. I'm usually more of a big-budget sci-fi kinda guy, but this neo-noir thing was something else. Like, seriously messed up, but in a way that kept me glued to the screen. Frances McDormand, man, she was fantastic. The whole thing with the blood, the lighter, and just the sheer panic on her face when she thought she'd killed Marty... whoa. And M. Emmet Walsh as the greasy detective? Creepy as hell. The way he just exuded sleaze and manipulation was perfect. I gotta say, though, some of the choices were a little weird. The whole burying-him-alive scene goes on forever and like, why is that a thing? It's got this slow burn to it, you know? Like you're watching a car crash in slow motion... you know it's gonna be bad, but you can't look away. The dialogue is super sparse at times, but it works. Like, less is more kinda thing. And that SCORE! Claustrophobic and intense. I think, ultimately, I was a little confused in parts, but the overall tone and the acting were so damn good. Definitely not a feel-good movie, that's for sure. But if you're in the mood for something dark, twisty, and kinda bizarre, "Blood Simple" is worth checking out. Anyone else seen this? What'd ya think? Also, I need to know what the heck 'blood simple' actually means!
