Okay, "Out of Africa"... Thoughts?
So, last night we finally got around to watching "Out of Africa." HUGE movie, I know, I'm late to the party. It's, like, 3 hours long! Beautiful, yes, but man, was it a commitment. I feel like I need a nap now, lol. Seriously though, the scenery was INCREDIBLE. Whoever scouted those locations deserves an award. I want to live there, even with... you know... everything that happens. I really liked Meryl Streep as Karen Blixen. She's so good at accents and capturing the whole "fish out of water" thing. And Robert Redford? Ugh, dreamy. I was totally rooting for them even though you kind of knew it wasn't going to work out. That scene where they fly together over Africa? Breathtaking. Although, TBH, I spent half the movie wondering why she didn't just kick her awful husband to the curb sooner. Like, girl, you’re in Africa, he’s back in his boring old life, just…stay? It was definitely a thought-provoking movie too. About love, loss, colonialism... all the big stuff. I think it's about how even if things don't turn out exactly like you planned, you can still find your own way. Or something. I'm still processing the ending, ngl. So sad! Overall, a visually stunning film that definitely makes you think and feel. Is it a perfect movie? Maybe not. But it's definitely one I'll be thinking about for a while. What did you guys think? Let's discuss!
