Day of the Dead and the Saddest Zombie Ever (Maybe?)

Okay, so I just finished watching Day of the Dead (the OG from '85, of course) and, whew, I need to unpack some things. Seriously, this movie got to me in ways I wasn't expecting. Like, I knew it was gonna be gory, and yeah, there's plenty of that, but it's the feelings, man! I have a theory – Bub isn't just a zombie; he's a victim. Hear me out! They condition him. They teach him. Okay, Rhodes is a full-on psycho and Dr. Logan is mad, but Bub starts REMEMBERING human things! He likes the music, recognizes Logan, and even gets upset when Logan's hurt. Then he gets angry when Logan is dead. This raises the question: Did Bub start to actually revert back to his humanity? He seemed so sad sometimes, like he was trapped inside that decaying body. It's just... heartbreaking! And the end? When Bub avenges Logan? Omg, I almost cried! Like, he remembered Dr. Logan who showed him some kindness. It subverts the whole 'mindless monster' trope. It shows the zombies can have some kind of feeling left. The movie definitely made me think differently about the zombie genre. It's not just about the scares (although those were good too!), but the lost humanity and the potential for... something else, even in the undead. It's a brutal movie - no doubt, but it also has a bittersweetness to it that just sticks with you. Anyway, that's just my take! Did anyone else feel this way about Bub? Let me know, I'm dying to discuss! (Pun intended, lol)
