Anyone else think "Legend" (1985) is Severely Underrated?
Okay, horrorheads, I know "Legend" isn't strictly horror, but that darkness tho! Plus, Tim Curry's Darkness is legit terrifying, even if his horns look kinda...pointy? LOL. I just rewatched it last night and I'm still blown away by the visuals. The forest scenes are gorgeous, and Mia Sara as Lily is, like, the ultimate ethereal fairy princess. But beyond that, the whole thing is just steeped in this unsettling atmosphere that I absolutely LOVE. And that sequence in the underworld?? Whew. Talk about nightmare fuel. The makeup and creature design were next level for the time. I think Ridley Scott created a visually stunning movie, and its sad that it was a box office bomb, and had so many edits to it. So, my question is, does anyone else think "Legend" gets a bad rep or is overlooked? It seems like people are either obsessed with it or completely dismiss it. What is it about this movie that makes it so divisive? Could it be that the fantasy element turned people off, or the edits made to the film affected it? Also, a quick side note: Am I the only one who thinks Tom Cruise was miscast? Like, he's fine, I guess, but his whole 'elf boy' thing just didn't quite gel for me. Someone else might have been a better fit for Jack, maybe someone a little more...elfin looking, lol. Just my 2 cents. Let me know your thoughts!
