Ladyhawke - Underrated Gem or Just Dated Fantasy?

Okay, action junkies, let's talk Ladyhawke (1985). I know it's not strictly action, but hear me out! This movie is low-key awesome, especially when you look at the stunts and the overall vibe. Rutger Hauer as Navarre is just badass. He's got that rugged, silent intensity thing DOWN. Matthew Broderick is fine as Gaston, funny enough, but lets be real, it's Hauer who carries the film. What I wanna know is, does anyone else think the practical effects hold up REALLY well? Especially considering the time. The wolf scenes are surprisingly effective (for the 80s, anyway!), and I swear some of those falls Navarre takes off his horse look like they were done for real. The director clearly cared about the visual stunts. Also the horse chase scenes are impressive. Are those the actors doing their own stunts or body doubles? Specifically, I'm wondering about the scene where Navarre is fighting the Bishop's guards in the forest. There's this one stunt where he jumps off a rock and lands swinging his sword. I rewound it a bunch of times - it looks like Hauer doing it himself. Anyone know for sure? I'm obsessed with figuring out behind-the-scenes stuff like that. It's such a classic and a unique take on fantasy. I want the next fantasy movie to be this cool.
