European Vacation: Clark's the Real Victim (Hear Me Out!)

Okay, so everyone rags on Clark for being a total doofus in 'European Vacation,' and yeah, he messes up A LOT. But I'm starting to think he's actually the VICTIM here. Think about it – he's trying SO HARD to give his family a good time, and everything just goes wrong. It's like the universe is conspiring against him! The car on the wrong side of the road thing is a classic, but honestly, who hasn't made a dumb driving mistake in an unfamiliar place? And then the whole losing Audrey thing... okay, maybe he should have kept a better eye on her, LOL. But still! My theory is that the whole point of the movie is to highlight how overwhelming travel can be. Especially back then, before Google Maps and translation apps. He's just a regular dad trying to navigate a completely different culture, while dealing with his wife and kids. Sure, he overreacts and gets frustrated, but wouldn't you? I mean, the sheep scene? C'mon. Who would expect THAT? And let's be honest, Ellen is kinda high maintenance. And the kids are typical teenagers, complaining every step of the way. Nobody appreciates his efforts! It's a comedy, I know, but I feel bad for the guy. Plus, Chevy Chase is just hilarious. He sells the frustration SO well. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I genuinely believe there's more to Clark's character than just comic relief. He's a relatable, if exaggerated, representation of the everyday dad, struggling to keep it together on a family vacation. What do you guys think? Am I crazy?
