Red Sonja: Was Kalidor actually hitting on her?!
Okay, so last night me and the girls finally watched Red Sonja. We'd been putting it off forever because...well, you know. The reviews. But honestly? It was kinda hilarious. I mean, it's no Conan, that's for sure, but it had its moments. Though, I gotta ask, did anyone else think Kalidor was like, SUPER creepy with Sonja? He was supposed to be protecting her, but the whole vibe was just...off. Like, 'oh, I'm just gonna follow you around and subtly remind you that I'm totally into you while you're trying to avenge your family.' GROSS. Seriously, that scene where he watches her bathe? WHAT WAS THAT?! I get it, Schwarzenegger was a huge star, and his name was on the poster bigger than Sandahl Bergman's, but the way the movie treated her character was…ugh. She's supposed to be this fierce warrior, but she spends half the time being rescued or having Kalidor make googly eyes at her. Did anyone else feel like Kalidor was actually a hindrance to Sonja's quest? Like, she could've handled Gedren on her own if she didn't have to babysit him and that annoying kid, Tarn? Speaking of Gedren, I actually thought she was a pretty decent villain. She was campy, sure, but at least she had a motivation beyond just being "evil." And seriously, the scene where she's controlling that beam weapon thing and laughing hysterically? Iconic, in a so-bad-it's-good kinda way! Overall, while it's definitely flawed I think there's some entertainment value here! So, thoughts? Was Kalidor just a well-meaning protector with terrible timing, or was he actually a bit of a creep? And am I the only one who secretly enjoyed Gedren's villain monologue?
