Silverado: Underrated Western Gem?

Okay, cinephiles, I just rewatched Silverado (1985) and I'm kicking myself for sleeping on it for so long! How have I missed this?! I went in expecting a standard shoot-em-up, but the cinematography, especially the opening shots of the desert, really grabbed me. The vastness and the light... it's classic Western, but done so well. I'm genuinely curious who the director was - I need to look that up STAT. The story itself is simple – four guys with different skills head to Silverado and find it's corrupt – but it's the execution that elevates it. I'm a sucker for ensemble casts, and this one delivers. Kevin Kline as Paden is just effortlessly cool (that hat!), and Scott Glenn as Emmett is the stoic cowboy we all secretly love. Even Kevin Costner, before he became Kevin Costner, is a fun, slightly unhinged presence. But honestly, the scene that sticks with me is when they're all finally riding together toward Silverado for the first time. The music swells, the landscape is gorgeous, and it just feels like a classic movie moment. There are definitely some cheesy bits – the romantic subplot feels a little forced, and some of the dialogue is a bit much. I'm not gonna lie, some of the plot conveniences stretch believability, and a few lines are like 'cringe' (sorry, I am millenial). Plus the score is super 80s at times, but honestly, even that kind of adds to the charm. It's trying to be a big epic, and I kind of respect it for that. Overall, Silverado is a really fun ride (pun intended!). It's not perfect, but its beautiful scenery, memorable characters, and exciting action make it a totally worthwhile watch for any Western fan. I'm adding it to my list of comfort movies for sure. Who else loves it? Share your favorite scene!
