Fletch: Still holds up, right? (Chevy Chase GOLD)
Okay, so I just rewatched Fletch for like, the millionth time. Don't judge. It's one of those movies that just... works, no matter how many times you've seen it. I was thinking about it, and like, HOW does Chevy Chase pull off so many disguises and get away with it? The Dr. Rosenpenis one is iconic, obviously, but even the random golf pro bits? Genius. Seriously though, is it just the 80s vibe, or is the writing actually sharp? Because some of the dialogue, especially between Fletch and Gail (Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, who is seriously underrated), is genuinely funny. I'm wondering if younger audiences get it? Like, do they appreciate the pure absurdity of it all? Or do they just think it's dated? My nephew watched it with me last year and just looked confused when Fletch was pretending to be a flight instructor. And the whole Alan Stanwyk plot is kinda dark when you think about it. Offering a stranger 50 grand to kill you? Yikes. But then Fletch just clowns on him the entire time. That scene in the hospital with the blood samples is pure comedy gold. So, yeah, my question is, does Fletch still translate to new viewers, or is it just nostalgia fueling my love for it? What are your thoughts? I need to know I'm not alone in thinking this movie is a legit classic. Also, best Fletch alias? Go!
