Young Sherlock Holmes: Underrated Gem or Just Nostalgia?

Okay, so I was feeling nostalgic the other night and rewatched "Young Sherlock Holmes" (1985). I know, I know, it's definitely more Hollywood than strict Doyle canon, but I have such a soft spot for it. Anyone else feel that way? I'm always surprised it's not talked about more when people bring up great coming-of-age movies. I mean, a young Sherlock and Watson solving a mystery involving hallucinogenic darts and a creepy Egyptian cult? Sign me UP! The stain-glass knight scene still gives me the creeps, btw. I do think it's aged a little bit. Some of the special effects are obviously dated now, but the story itself is still really engaging. I thought Nicholas Rowe was perfect as the young Sherlock, capturing that brilliant-but-socially-awkward vibe. And the chemistry between him and Alan Cox as Watson was fantastic. I'd honestly love to see a modern take on young Sherlock and Watson, but it would be super hard to recapture that magic. The whole plot is a bit outlandish, sure, but it's also SO creative. I mean, who would have thought to put Sherlock Holmes in such a bizarre, almost Indiana Jones-esque adventure? I also really appreciate the darker aspects of the story, especially Dudley's death. It definitely elevated it beyond just another kids' movie. I will say, I always forget that Professor Rathe is Moriarty in a disguise... it's kind of a hamfisted reveal if you ask me. Anyway, just wanted to see what other people thought! Is it just my childhood nostalgia goggles or does "Young Sherlock Holmes" still hold up? What's your favourite scene? Let's hear it!
