Explorers: Was Reality Just... Ben's Dream, Guys?

Okay, so I just re-watched Explorers (1985), you know, the one with Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix as kids, and I'm convinced I've stumbled on something HUGE. Like, bigger than the whole 'bubble' thing they built. I think... I think the entire movie might have been Ben's dream. Hear me out! The whole thing starts with Ben having these incredibly vivid dreams, right? Like, borderline prophetic. Then, suddenly, he's building a spaceship with his friends and encountering aliens who communicate through TV shows and pinball machines? It's all SO whimsical. It's the kind of random, illogical stuff that just happens in dreams. Especially when you're a kid obsessed with sci-fi like Ben. And the fact that the aliens were kinda naive and goofy, processing Earth culture through broadcast signals? Totally sounds like a kid's interpretation of the unknown. Remember the scene where they're showing the aliens all the different tv and movie clips? How random and uncoordinated it all was? That has all the hallmarks of a dream. Like, what if at the end of the movie, when Ben wakes up, THAT'S the real wake-up? The whole spaceship adventure? Just a super-elaborate construct of his imagination fueled by too many late-night movies and comic books. I dunno, it just hit me this time around, and I can't shake it. What do you guys think? Am I totally off base, or does this kind of make sense?
