"Death Wish 3": Now THIS is how you clean up the streets! (And maybe break a few laws)
Alright, alright, alright. So I just re-watched "Death Wish 3" and man, it's even crazier than I remembered. Look, I know it's not exactly high art, but if you're in the mood for some over-the-top vigilante action, Charles Bronson delivers. The plot is paper-thin: Kersey's back in NYC (again! Apparently, he loves being a magnet for crime), and this time he gets practically deputized by a police chief (Manny, played by Ed Lauter) who's as corrupt as they come. But honestly, who cares about plot when you've got Bronson blowing away punks with a freakin' Wildey Magnum?! "Go ahead, make my day" doesn't even BEGIN to cover it. The whole thing is hilariously ridiculous. The gang, led by the delightfully evil Fraker (Gavan O'Herlihy), are cartoon villains. They literally just run around breaking things and terrorizing people. And Kersey? He's basically a one-man army, turning the streets into his personal shooting gallery. The scene where he rigs up that grenade launcher on the building is just... chef's kiss. It's so over-the-top, it's almost charming. Plus, the old lady upstairs helping him reload? Genius. Seriously, how did this movie ever get made?! Is it good? Objectively, probably not. Is it entertaining? Absolutely. It's the kind of movie you watch with your brain turned off and just enjoy the explosions and cheesy one-liners. And look, Bronson doesn't exactly have a huge range, but he does bring a certain gravitas to the role. He IS Paul Kersey, darn it. Nobody else could pull this off. Plus, the soundtrack is pure 80s synth goodness. So, yeah, "Death Wish 3". Not a cinematic masterpiece, but a glorious, violent, and utterly bonkers piece of action cinema. If you're looking for something that'll make you laugh and maybe feel a little bit uncomfortable about rooting for a vigilante, this is your movie. Just remember, don't try this at home, kids. "You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?" ;)
