King Solomon's Mines (1985) - Underrated Stunt-Fest!
Alright, action junkies, lemme tell you about a flick that doesn't get enough love: King Solomon's Mines (the '85 version, obviously, not the older one). I know, I know, it's cheesy as hell, and Sharon Stone's delivery is...well, it's Sharon Stone doing 'damsel in (slight) distress.' But hear me out! This movie is a PRACTICAL STUNT PARADISE! Seriously, the sheer volume of guys flying through the air, getting slammed into walls, and generally ragdolled is insane. Forget CGI, these stunt performers earned their paycheck. That mine cart chase scene? Legit. The fight in the native village? Glorious chaos. I especially love how Richard Chamberlain clearly went for it in all his action scenes. He's got this goofy, slightly-too-old-for-this-shit vibe that strangely works. And the practical effects! The giant boulder roll? Old school cool. The booby traps? Hilariously over-the-top. Sure, the story is basic adventure stuff – find the dad, get the treasure, beat the bad guys – but honestly, who cares when you're watching dudes get launched off cliffs? It's a perfect example of 80s action excess, and I'm totally here for it. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I'll defend this movie's stunt work to the death--or at least until the next awesome stunt showreel catches my eye. Definitely worth a watch if you appreciate real, physical action over computer generated garbage. Don't overthink it, just enjoy the ride (and maybe some popcorn).
