Alright, who else had a crush on Jim Carrey in "Once Bitten"?
Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Once Bitten" (1985) the other night, and whew, talk about a time capsule! Honestly, it's a little ridiculous, but in the best, most 80s way possible. The plot is so hilariously absurd: Jim Carrey (Mark) just wants to, you know, experience a certain milestone, but his girlfriend Robin wants to wait... which makes him the perfect target for Lauren Hutton's vampire Countess. Classic trope, right? Honestly, Hutton is mesmerizing -- and terrifying -- as the Countess. She sells the whole 'ancient vampire desperately trying to stay young' thing perfectly. And that mansion?! Goals. My favorite parts were definitely the awkward '80s teen situations and the over-the-top vampire effects. Remember when Mark is at the club and he gets "attacked" by the Countess?! It was ridiculous but I loved it. And the scene where he's like, freaking out about turning into a vampire and trying to figure out how to deal with it - pure Jim Carrey gold! His comedic timing was already so on point, even back then. It's definitely not a great movie, let's be real. The plot's kinda thin, and some of the special effects are... well, charmingly bad, haha! But if you're looking for a lighthearted, nostalgic, and slightly campy vampire flick with peak '80s fashion and a young Jim Carrey, give it a watch. Just don't expect Citizen Kane, lol. I'm giving it a solid 3 out of 5 stars - mostly for the laughs and the memories. Anyone else remember this one from their childhood? What were your favorite parts?
