Okay, hear me out: "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor" is... unexpectedly dark?
So, I finally watched Ewoks: The Battle for Endor because, let's be real, I'm a sucker for anything even vaguely connected to Star Wars. I went in expecting pure, unadulterated 80s cheese, and while there was definitely cheese (I mean, Teek? That speed demon was something), I was also genuinely surprised by how... intense it got? Like, Cindel's ENTIRE FAMILY gets wiped out in the first act. I was not prepared! My rom-com loving heart wasn't ready for that level of trauma. And King Terak? Major villain vibes. He's straight-up terrifying in a way that's almost too much for what I thought was a kids' movie. The Marauders in general were kind of brutal! I actually felt bad for the Ewoks (and I'm usually side-eyeing the cutesy stuff) because they weren't just fighting space nazis. The witch Charal... she was no Glenda, that's for sure. Don't get me wrong, there were still plenty of Ewok antics to be had, and the Gorax was certainly a sight to behold. The whole thing felt like a fever dream directed by someone who really wanted to traumatize a generation. Still, it was an interesting watch, though maybe not one I'll be revisiting anytime soon. I'm gonna need a palate cleanser of pure, fluffy rom-com goodness after that! Anyone else strangely disturbed by this movie as a kid? Or is it just me? Also, what was up with Teek's obsession with speed?
