Just Watched Mishima... Woah.

Okay, so I just finished "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters," and holy smokes, that was... something else. I went in totally blind, just saw it listed as a classic and figured I'd broaden my horizons. I still don't even know who directed it, I'm so new to deep-diving film like this, haha. I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit lost at times. The way it jumps between the real Mishima and the stories he wrote was kinda confusing at first, but once I figured out what was happening, it became super interesting. Like when they showed the "Temple of the Golden Pavilion" scene and how it mirrored his own, almost obsessive personality. That golden temple burning down felt really, really deliberate, like a release of some kind. And the visuals? Absolutely stunning. The costumes, the sets... whoever designed that stuff was a genius. That sword ceremony scene, especially, was a visual feast. I was holding my breath the whole time, even though I knew what was coming. The whole thing was just heavy. Intense. It definitely made me want to learn more about Yukio Mishima as a person. I mean, what drives someone to do what he did? I'm not endorsing any of it, obviously, but I'm fascinated. Like, they SHOW the day of his seppuku. That felt...well as real as a film could make it, I guess, which was tough to watch. Definitely not a light and breezy Sunday afternoon kind of film, but I'm glad I saw it. Anyone else seen this? What were your takes? I have a feeling I'm still processing this one. Any other films with this kind of... intensity, that you guys would recommend? Maybe something a little less... final?
