"Invasion U.S.A.": Chuck Norris and the Unsung SFX Heroics

Okay, so I finally got around to watching "Invasion U.S.A." (yeah, I'm late to the party, I know). Chuck Norris being Chuck Norris is a given. But seriously, no one ever talks about the sound design in this movie! The explosions are ridiculous, but in a totally awesome, over-the-top '80s action way. I'm pretty sure they used, like, every single explosion sample they had available for that final Miami shootout. It's almost comical, but kinda adds to the film's charm. Anyone else notice this? I mean, it's not "Apocalypse Now" level audio artistry, but for a Cannon Films production, somebody clearly had fun with the soundboard. My crackpot theory? I think the director (whoever it was) understood the budget limitations and just let the SFX team go wild to compensate. Like, 'we can't afford realistic dialogue or nuanced character development, but we can blow up a million things!' And frankly, it kinda works. The sheer volume of explosions and gunfire becomes its own kind of narrative. It's almost like they're trying to distract you from the plot holes with sheer auditory and visual assault. And speaking of visuals... the practical effects are surprisingly decent, especially considering the era and the likely low budget. I'm thinking about the scene where the bus blows up... that looks like a real bus getting blown up, not some CGI garbage. I bet the aftermath was something to see. So, what are your thoughts? Am I overthinking this glorious piece of '80s cheese, or is there a slightly more sophisticated layer of technical bravado hidden beneath the mullet and machine guns? One last random point: I did some digging, and apparently, the director is listed as "unknown" on some platforms... how does that even happen? Either the credit was left off, or this movie was a collective effort gone completely bonkers! This only adds to my theory: low budget, high enthusiasm, and a whole lotta explosions to hide behind! It's kinda like the original "Mad Max" in that sense. Maybe a bit more refined than I initially thought...
